Welcome to Glob Loblogs Goblin Blog, the dev blog home for Goblin Gaiden: Melvins War. It's been exactly 60 days since submitting the game to Itcho.io for the Figerox Studios: The Goblin Jam.

Since then, I've had a lot of "real life" to deal with, have done a lot of travel and have given myself a break from the Dev world while doing so. Originally, I just wanted an excuse to make an AutoBattler with Godot as I've been playing a lot of Mechabellum. I spent every hour I wasn't working for two weeks making that game, giving it my all for my first game jam and it ended up with great reception! The reception was so good that I want to make this into a real game.

The Game Jam

I learned an incredible amount from doing the Jam, and I reccomend any and all Game Dev's to do one. Not worrying about any sort of expectations as there was really nothing on the line / having some constraints made the entire thing honestly a lot of fun!

People seemed to like it, too. I did all the art in Aesprite, all the programming in Godot / gdscript, and found some generous folks who uploaded some backgrounds to free game assets. I also had some help with the music from one of my best buds (and incredibly talented musicians) Mike.

Goblin Gaiden Roadmap?

I haven't been sure where to start yet to be honest, so I chose to first add some fun things to the website and setup this blog (+ a custom little Blog CSM in Python to manage it) to get back in the groove of things without diving into anything too deep and technical.

Right now my goals are simple:

  • Refactor and Fix the Save and Loading System
  • Change Fonts and create a Consistent UI
  • Update Battle System to ensure units don't stack on each other
  • Redesign the Unit Assignment UI
  • Make linear Map System with Tribes / Random Events
  • Implement Ranged Units
  • Add Unlockable Heroes

Basically going to do this in that order. I'd like to give some sort of time-frame to commit to, but I don't know how long these things will take me. I was able to do a lot in two weeks but I expect this to take much longer as I want to make this as scalable as possible... however, I'm finding the best way to learn how to make something is scalable is to create it, do your best, and then see where you fail for next time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What's Next?

Right now my goal is to do my best and update this Blog and maybe itch.io every 2 weeks or so and be more interactive with my fellow devs on BlueSky. If you're reading this, I really appreciate your interest and commitment to getting through the whole post lol. Here's to what's coming.
